Well, it's another year. I've set the beloved Halloween theme as default once again, and as always, you are free to switch it back via the theme selector at the bottom of any board that is not All/Grim.
Have fun, hand out lots of candy, and make sure you set some aside for yourselves as well!

Hi all,
Sorry about the downtime with the site there. Nobody reported the issues with posting to me at all, so I was in the dark on this. I noticed activity was way down and tried a test post and saw there was an issue. It's fixed now.
Please note that the issue was unrelated to the current slowdowns the site is experiencing. Our hosting service is having some issues and we're trying to figure out what's causing the slowdowns.
Fuck you,
Unity
Hi all,
The site will be down today for a few hours due to server upgrades. Hopefully everything will go smoothly. If not, just know that I'll be troubleshooting any issues and will hopefully be able to resolve them within a day.
Fuck you,

Hi all,
I'm proud to say that long-time member of the Grimchan modteam Dakk/whatever else he's going by these days, is now promoted to co-admin. Dakk has been here since almost the very beginning, and was the first user of the site to join the mod team way back in 2019.
With two administrators, I'm hoping we can tackle spam even quicker than before. Please continue to report rule-breaking posts.
Fuck you,

Hey all,
The IRC server is reconnected.
Thanks,
Unity
Hey,
The server that Grimchan uses for its IRC is currently experiencing an outage for all customers. The reason is not yet known, but it's expected that the problem will be fixed within the next couple of days. The server owner (who has kindly lent us space to house #Grimchan) has created a ticket.
Thanks for your patience,
Unity
Hey all,
I'm just writing to let you know that due to some server-related maintenance, the site might experience a short amount of downtime sometime in late February or early March. Don't be alarmed, it's entirely normal. If there are any quirks with the upgrade process, I'll notify you all on the @grimchandotnet Twitter page.
Fuck you,

Hey all,
Recently, it's come to my attention that Caffe.css has caused laggy scrolling on some browsers. After confirming the issue, I went ahead and messed with the css. The background (which keeps the images in place whilst scrolling the page content) was the culprit here. Unfortunately, to fix the issue, I had to remove the part that kept it fixed. This means that the background now scrolls with the rest of the page.
If this is a problem to anyone, please let me know in /reap/. I'd be happy to add the original Caffe back as an option with a (MAY CAUSE LAG) next to the option. In the meantime, I've removed it.
Changes might take a while to show up on your browser. You can clear your cache or use a private tab to see the changes in the meantime.
More tweaks and bug fixes are in the works, so stay tuned! I'll continue to update you all via the homepage. Please remember to drop suggestions and complaints in /reap/, as I check there regularly.

Hey all,
Just letting you guys know I just paid off the bill for this year. Everything should be good to go. Thanks for keeping this place alive. Once again, Grimchan refuses to die somehow.
On another note, I'm feeling kind of nostalgic about this place. I made it way back in first year of university on a whim and never expected it to go anywhere. The homepage was held together with spaghetti html, the logo was a stock image, and the only theme was terminal. Honestly, it was a janky mess.
I made Grimchan because, at the time, I had been a moderator for another imageboard for about 3 years. I had all sorts of ideas, things I wanted to test—I was thinking about what it would be like if I had an imageboard of my own.
Grimchan was a test bed for those ideas. It had no set purpose, no real theme. I'd make my rules, link it to my friends, ask my roommate to post, and then it would die a short death as not even a footnote in the imageboard space.
Obviously, things didn't happen that way. Despite 3 separate deaths and countless site updates, facelifts, board changes and domain shuffles, this place I made in freshman year is still around. I'm a graduate now, working a real job, doing real things. The imageboard that inspired me to create this place is dead. The people that helped me set this place up are totally out of the imageboard space. Most of my original mod team are gone. Still, here this place stands, refusing to die. I'm really glad.
Grimchan had no purpose, no theme, no reason to exist. It is entirely user-driven. You guys are the only reason it's still kicking, because you made it into something. So keep making a community here, please. As long as I see people continuing to use this place, continuing to make it into whatever the hell they want it to be, I will keep paying out of pocket.
I'll be messing around behind the scenes to deal with some bugs in the coming weeks. I'm so happy this place has refused to die another year.
Special thank you to illu and dddudeman (memes be upon him) for helping me with initial setup all those years ago. Thank you to fella, wherever you are, for all your late night moderating. Thank you magos for being one of the longest running users and best damn moderator I've ever seen. Thank you to everyone for posting and making this shithole live another day. I'll be updating the homepage with any fixes/changes soon. Please stay tuned, as I may also be opening moderator slots again.
Fuck you,

I decided I just can't part with this place. Not just yet, anyway.
Please enjoy the site, I'm glad to have you all here.

I've held off on this announcement for a couple months now. As you have likely noticed, there is a message on the top of all board pages with the following contents:
"Grimchan shuts down this January. It's been a good run."
I imagine this isn't terribly surprising to many of you, though I'm shocked that there hasn't been a single post commenting on the change. I guess that's indicative of the state of the site, huh?
The truth is, I really love running this place. I've made a lot of friends here, and more importantly, helped others make friends through this website. That means a lot. Grimchan was meant to be a proof of concept, the vanity project of a longtime mod to show himself that he could run his *own* imageboard. And then, for some reason, people posted, and here we are all these years later.
I started Grimchan when I was in first year of University. I've since graduated. Lots has changed in that time, but one thing has not; I am very, very broke. That's just a fact of being a 20something, folks. Grimchan has cost me a lot over the years, but I'm happy to pay it so long as the place is going to use.
As you have all seen, Grimchan is simply not being put to use. I was hopeful that after the domain change (which I had no control over, see prior announcements for details), people would perhaps share the new url. That simply wasn't the case.
Of course, that can change. You can still share the URL, tell people the place is back, etc.
Like I said, I don't want to pull the plug on Grimchan, but I don't have the finances to prop up a corpse without reason. That's why, come January (the next bill) I will be disabling the server and moving on.
That is assuming *things don't pick up*.
This isn't to say that I'm intending to guilt trip anyone into shilling. I don't fault you if you don't care enough to tell people, to post links, write them on bathroom walls (that's a joke, vandalism is bad kids). I'm simply stating that if there is no effort to keep the community alive then that tells us all we need to know, right?
I hope that, regardless of the outcome in January, you've enjoyed your time on Grimchan. I put a ton of love into this place. I've stayed up countless hours with the mod team fixing bugs, deleting shitposts like the janny I am and laughing at the abhorrent shitposts you guys have made. It's truly been a wild ride that I couldn't be more proud of in the end.
I should probably end this off, it's getting long.
If you're reading this, know you are appreciated. No matter who you are, I appreciate you coming to this corner of the internet, because it's a corner I've shaped with love. It means so much that I've brought joy to people through something I've made, something that is in many ways shaped after myself.
No matter what happens, this was a hell of a time and I don't regret this place at all.
Fuck you,
—Unity
P.S., I will be making backups prior to the shutdown come January just in case anyone with a better financial outlook wants to pick up where I left off. Contact unity@finalchan.net for details on that.
Hey all.
That was one hell of a weekend. After years, there goes the old domain, just like that. I still don't really know what happened and I never got my proper apology, but they've decided not to unsuspend us. Still pretty baffled, but oh well.
Let's not consider this a fresh start—more like your favourite aging celebrity getting a facelift.
A few things come with that facelift. For one, I've removed the friends page. This might seem a little mean, but I think it's probably for the best. I'd rather prevent spammers from finding sister sites. I've also changed the Twitter handle, it's @GrimchanDotNet now. Kind of self-explanatory.
Illu has been extremely helpful in getting us back up and running and calming me down from the initial shock of the domain loss. I can't thank him enough for all the help these past years with this little project of mine.
Dakk is a great mod, I'm glad he's sticking around. So diligent and dedicated to the place, it's insane.
Sadly, Fella's left. We've got a new mod taking his place, but we're always open to more moderators. I'm eternally grateful to him for all the help he lent us.
Expect moderation to be even more diligent than usual. I'm going to personally be checking about twice as often as usual. Please report spam posts using the triangular button beside the name field.
Folks, I'll be honest, it's a bit of an uphill battle from here. I've contacted as many people as I could, but Grimchan is mostly populated by a fuckton of anons, so it's going to be hard to adjust. If I do somehow manage to get the old domain back, I'll point it here for the remainder of the bill. Maybe it'll help, but regardless, tell your friends we exist.
I'm sure we'll survive. Grimchan has a knack for that, ironically enough. This whole experience has reminded me how important this site is to me.
Anyway, things are a little more stable as of now, so I guess we can get off red alert. Back to shitposting you go, anon.
Fuck you,
—Unity
We have moved domains officially from Grimchan.xyz to Grimchan.net, due to the previous post's mentioned circumstances. We apologize for the interruption. Back to your scheduled shitposting.
So, we're in the middle of a bit of a mess right now.
I explained on the Grimchan official Twitter (@grimchanxyz) that our domain is suspended at the moment. We were given 0 notice of this. I contacted the provider of the domain, they had to contact the owners, and only then did I finally learn what on earth is going on.
I've sent several support tickets to the domain owners asking them to unsuspend us. They've been extremely vague about what caused this, but I can only guess that there's a particular bias against imageboards since things like this seem to happen a lot. Regardless, I've sent them several pieces of evidence that I and the moderation team are diligent in removing spam (assuming a spam post is the reason for this). I also made sure to mention that they broke the captcha through the suspension and are actively promoting spam and making our jobs harder.
As you can probably tell, I'm extremely angry at the lack of courtesy shown to Grimchan in this whole matter. As I type this, I'm still waiting on a reply to our unsuspension request, which was sent Friday. Regardless, I know that I and my mods work hard to keep this place clean and I will NOT go down from this without a fight. I registered this domain in 2019 and I plan to keep it until 20 fucking 99.
Anyway - where do we go from here? If you're reading this, we're currently in one of two situations;
a) The domain has been restored.
b) We have acquired a new domain unaffiliated with xyz.
I'm very hopeful it's the former, but if we don't get our unsuspension (bonus points for a formal apology lul), I will be forced to move elsewhere and shill the new URL.
Either way, I'll provide an update post here later on with more details.
Thank you for using Grimchan these past few years. I'm eternally grateful to our posters and lurkers. I'm not letting someone take away your shitpost-haven without doing everything I possibly can to stop them.
Fuck you,

Hi everyone. Site went down for a brief few hours there. Nothing serious, I just forgot to pay the server bill. We should be back up now, but some site features might take a moment to reload properly. Regardless, everything's fine and paid for.
Fuck you,
—Unity
Hi all,
First off, I want to thank our moderation team for a wonderful year. You've all been incredibly helpful. Fella has been extremely diligent in late-night moderation, Dakk/Bigfoot has put in a ton of hours and illu has been there to fix the shit I break. Special thanks to Koi for figuring out some of the html/text formatting errors.
That big round of bug fixes from a few months back is mostly finished at this point, at least insofar as the site is working better. Is there a hint of spaghetti code here and there? Maybe a little bit. But if you've ever looked under tinyboard's hood, you'd know that's part of the charm.
With bug fixes and Halloween festivities out of the way, it's mostly smooth sailing for the site for the foreseeable future. I'll probably tweak with a few things, possibly rearrange some boards, but it won't be as hectic. If you have any suggestions or complaints, feel free to post on /reap/. I personally check every day.
The only major issue plaguing the site at the moment is spam, and lots of it. As you all know, I implemented a captcha last year. It helped. Spam is down by a very notable margin compared to other similarly sized imageboards. For every 3 spam posts, Grimchan gets 1. But that 1 is still a problem.
I and the rest of the mod team have been extremely diligent in dealing with spam. It's especially grating as of late, but we are all committed to keeping illegal, misleading and rule-breaking content off of the site. Everyone has put in long hours cleaning it up *for free* like the glorified jannies we are.
Please continue to use the report function, it helps immensely.
I plan to put out a new wave of stickers to help support the site. It would be much appreciated if you would consider buying some of them; things are somewhat tight and I'd really like to keep the lights on around here. Regardless, whether you support us by posting, sharing the url or purchasing stickers, you are a valued part of Grimchan.
This is getting rather long and I'm procrastinating a shit-ton of stuff, so I'll try to wrap this up. Thanks for posting, visiting, volunteering and supporting Grimchan for 3 years. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Atheism Gift-Giving Day or whatever the fuck else. But you're sure as hell not going to get a 'Happy Holidays' out of me.
Fuck you,
—Unity
The Hallow's Eve CSS is now set to defeault, enjoy your dancing skeleton.
As I noted a couple news entries ago, I planned to change things up a little/add some features/fix some bugs.
In case you people are curious, I've:
- Updated the homepage logo. It's now using a script which rotates a few doodles I made.
- Remade the static pages so that they have a proper board-list on top.
- Added supported file-types and text formatting options to the FAQ page.
Anyway, I'll be continuing to mess around with the site (see:breaking stuff) for the next little while.
We're 3 years old, not 2.
I just checked properly.
You all have permission to make fun of me.
The 10th was Grimchan's 2nd birthday, officially. I don't actually know the official date the server went on anymore–I just go off the domain bill.
Anywho, I just wanted to thank everyone for visiting and posting. It means a lot to see what was initially just an experimental website for me actually flourish somewhat. I mostly made Grimchan because of the fact that I'd been volunteering at various imageboards for years, and wanted to try some different ideas I'd had along the way. I didn't actually expect people to use the place.
I plan to keep the server running as long as I humanly can. I should mention that Covid fucked me out of a job, so it's been a bit of a struggle keeping the lights on compared to the previous year. But even so, I'd miss a day of tendies to pay for you idiots any day.
It's funny to think about the wild ride this place has gone through over the years. We've had three separate servers now, two of which tried to take our money and run.
(for the full info on this, you can check the FAQ). We've had a /bant/ invasion that skyrocketed the site's userbase, and then an ad which gave us our peak in monthly visitors to date. It's just surreal, how many ups and downs there have been for this little corner of the internet.
Anyway, this is getting ridiculously long. I apologize. I should probably touch on site updates.
- First off, I plan to tweak the FAQ with some extra info on file-types and formatting, as per user request. I also aim to add more proper text formatting in posts.
- The w1cca theme probably won't change at all.
- The captcha will remain, as even with it, spam has been a major issue of the site.
- We may open another moderator slot; not sure about this yet.
- Boards may be tweaked a little. I'm looking at you, /s/.
Some minor bug fixes may also occur, but I doubt it's of much interest to the average user.
- A donation (BTC) button may be added someplace.
Reminder you guys can also suggest changes/improvements in /reap/.
Anyway, to wrap up, thanks for two years. I love you idiots.
- Unity
Hi, everyone.
As some of you may haven noticed, the site was unreachable for a few hours this morning. This is because I'm a fucking idiot and forgot to pay the domain bill, nothing was actually wrong with the site. It's all paid for now, and it took a few hours to re-link with the server for whatever reason. We're all good now. Both the server and domain bill are now paid and good to go.
Hi everyone. Thanks to illu, the site functions/looks much better on mobile devices than it did previously. Many people have suggested changes to the mobile css, and now it should be a much better user experience.
Halloween will soon be upon us, and as a spooky-themed website, we're obligated to do something special! Here's a theme I made some modifications to, hope you enjoy it! For those who don't want a massive dancing skeleton taking up a third of their screen, simply scroll to the bottom of any board (NOT grim/all), and select w1cca from the style menu.
Happy Halloween you dumb fucks.
For the regulars who are confused, I recently commissioned an ad from Simian Jimmy (Mumkey Jones), hence the influx of users. Be sure to give everyone a warm Grimchan welcome, and don't spill your spaghetti like usual.
Hey everyone. After speaking to a few users, I have decided to enable a captcha. This is mainly due to an increase in spam as well as the small size of the staff. I can understand how annoying this must be, but I'd rather that than have users see something disgusting. Thanks for continuing to support the site, I greatly appreciate it.
-Unity
In a rather "random" turn of events (please laugh at that pun, I beg of you), I decided to add a new trial board to the site. If it is well received and has steady content, I will keep it around.
After a bit of downtime, we were able to get IDs enabled on /b/. Special thanks to illu for putting up with the absolute batshit craziness the server was giving us for whatever reason. Now you guys can roll for kot ID
According to the bill for the domain, Grimchan was founded 1 year ago. We've gone through a lot. Grimchan started as a hobby project of mine, where I hoped someone might get some enjoyment out of the place. We've gone down twice thanks to external circumstances, but, despite the name, Grimchan never stayed dead for long.
I want to thank all the users of this website for making it the place it is today. Many of you are new, a couple of you are old, but you're all equally appreciated to me, as well as the rest of the mod team. This place has grown into something I am incredibly proud of, and the kind words I have received make me incredibly honoured to have founded this place.
Here's to another year.
The annual Grimchan census is now online over on /reap/. It will be available to complete until midnight of April 11th. I really encourage users to do so, it's rather short and will help make this place better.
Thank you for the help.
In an attempt to give people a break from constant shitposts, /s/ is basically a board where you talk about whatever the hell you want in a more serious tone. Tell people your troubles, what's going on in your life, or your interests/hobbies!
Shitposting isn't against the rules or anything, I just discourage it because it'd be nice to have a more serious board. But if you must shitpost feel free.
Thanks again for coming along for the ride.
Grimchan refuses to die, ironically enough. Welcome all to the third iteration of this stubborn site. This time we actually backed everything up.
For those wondering, we got a strange email from our VPS saying they were shutting down, without context or reason. We had just enough time to save all your terrible posts and get ourselves a well-fought refund. Now we're going with a more local server setup that's been going strong for quite a while; we're much less worried about random shutdowns now.
As for the site, once again some minor changes–mostly to boards–will be rolled out soon. Thanks everyone for patiently waiting, it's appreciated. Here's to Grimchan 3.0!
A couple changes were made to boards today.
The /m/ board was removed, as it was essentially dead. If anyone's that crazy about having an /m/, feel free to make a general on /b/.
A new board was added, /z/. Someone suggested a board that changes every so often and I liked the idea. You can suggest your board ideas in the sticky, and tomorrow I'll make a poll.
Hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving, and thanks for stopping by.
Well everyone (all ~3 of you), we're back! After losing both the server (thanks Alpharacks) and the backups, Grimchan is back on the web. It's been a hard few months, but this place isn't ready to die just yet.
We're overhauling things a little bit. Expect some new boards and a design overhaul in regards to static pages. The w1cca CSS (thanks again, illu) is not going anywhere anytime soon, though.
I'd just like to thank all the people who made this place possible, again. Without the help of dddudeman, this server would still be a mess. And thanks to illu, this place doesn't look like complete ass, nor is it held together with duct tape.
I'd just like to say that I'm glad to have this place back. I missed it beyond words. I hope I can be a part of something even better than the first iteration. So grab your swanky whiskey glasses, pour your favourite single malt, and let's have a toast to Grimchan 2.0!
